Female Founders Will Get to Pitch at Upcoming Venture Summit

Two female founders were selected as winners of the Women’s Fast Pitch event on August 28. Julie Collens, founder of Vivid Genomics, and Iva Teixeira, founder of The Good Face Project, won $5,000 in business services and the chance to pitch at the upcoming Women’s Venture Summit.

Collens started Vivid Genomics after working as manager of market development for complex disease at Illumina. She saw an opportunity to focus more on neurodegenerative diseases. Her company uses machine learning and genomics to screen patients for Alzheimer’s clinical trials.

Stella Labs, formerly known as Hera Labs, hosts both the Fast Pitch and Venture Summit events to highlight woman-owned businesses. At the Women’s Venture Summit on Sept. 14 at the University of San Diego, startups will have the chance to pitch for $5,000 in cash and $30,000 in in-kind services.

Teixeira started The Good Face Project after finding a dearth of good skin care information online. Her startup screens ingredients in cosmetics, shampoos, and other common beauty products for allergens, irritants and carcinogens.
