General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Gets $275M Order

The following are selected defense contracts awarded to San Diego County companies in mid-July. The U.S. Department of Defense releases a digest of contract awards daily at 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. of Poway received a $275 million contract from the U.S. Army covering an unspecified number of aircraft, satellite communications air data terminals, universal ground data terminals, program management and equipment maintenance and repair. Work will be done in Poway and run through July 30, 2021. The Army flies a version of the company’s Predator aircraft called the Gray Eagle. The U.S. Army Contracting Command of Redstone Arsenal, Alabama awarded the deal, announced on July 15. The deal is a hybrid contract, partially a cost plus fixed fee deal and partially a firm fixed price deal.

Viasat Gets $91M in Military Radio Work

Viasat Inc. received a $90.7 million modification to an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract to make modifications to Link 16 military radios. The deal raises the value of the contract to $789 million. The contract combines purchases for the Navy, U.S. Air Force and MIDS Program Office, as well as to the governments of Austria, Chile, Finland, Israel, Jordan, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The contract also includes purchases to NATO and all NATO nations under the U.S. government’s foreign military sales program. Work will be performed in Carlsbad and is expected to run through May. The Naval Information Warfare System Command of San Diego awarded the deal, announced on July 17.

• Following up on a July 10 award for plumbing, heating and air conditioning work, the Navy awarded Paradigm Mechanical Corp. another five-year contract with a ceiling of $49 million, announcing the news on July 17. Under the new indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity deal, the Navy will have Paradigm handle construction alterations, renovations and repairs at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, and Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport. Paradigm is a small, woman-owned business based in Lemon Grove. The contract was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online website, with seven proposals received. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest awarded the deal. Paradigm will now wait for task orders under the contract.
