Gala Helps Support the Next Generation of Musicians

San Diego Symphony’s Opus Gala 2012 was recently held with a pre-reception and dinner at the University Club followed by the concert at Copley Symphony Hall featuring guest pianist Lang Lang. The $510,000 raised goes to support the music education and outreach programs which now reach 58,000 students throughout San Diego County. As part of the student outreach program, three students were invited to perform for Lang Lang. Sponsors of the gala included Joan and Irwin Jacobs, Ashford University, Audrey Geisel / Dr. Seuss Fund, Van Cleef & Arpels and David Copley. “We have found that since the economic collapse of ’08-’09, things have changed for the better, to which we give our most loyal donors and subscribers credit for helping to sustain the organization through tough times,” said Edward B. Gill, CEO of the San Diego Symphony … In recognition of Domestic Violence Month, the YWCA of San Diego County held its Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2012. The event went through the Gaslamp Quarter ending at Dick’s Last Resort. The event raised $50,000 for the YWCA’s Becky’s House. The Visionary sponsors were Sycuan, Sharp HealthCare, Cox Communications and SDG&E. The Silver Shoe sponsor was BenefitPro Insurance Services … The Seany Foundation’s fifth annual Everything Is Possible Celebration was held at the Del Mar Country Club. The event raised $100,000 for childhood cancer research and patient care programs. Lori Iaquinta received the Seany Community Service Award in recognition of her ongoing dedication to the fight against childhood cancer. Sponsors for the evening included Barona Resort & Casino, Customer Centric Selling, Dr. John Smoot, Lockton Insurance, Medical Center Pharmacy and Variety: the Children’s Charity of Southern California. The Seany Foundation was founded in 2005 to carry on the legacy of Sean Lewis Robins’ battle against Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone cancer … The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside raised $100,000 at its 25th Annual Boys & Girls Night Out gala. The event was held at the Oceanside Museum of Art where attendees dined on food from local restaurants including Bull Taco, The Flying Pig, Fratelli’s Italian Kitchen and Harney Sushi. All of the funds raised go towards B&GCO’s scholarship fund, which keeps membership dues low so no child is turned away for financial reasons … The fifth annual golf tournament for San Diego Hospice was held at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe. The event raised a record $100,000. Proceeds raised benefit the grief and loss support programs offered through The Center for Grief Care and Education at San Diego Hospice, including Camp Erin San Diego – an annual weekend summer camp … The Father Joe’s Villages Thanksgiving 5K Run/Walk is being held on Thanksgiving Day to benefit the homeless. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. at the San Diego Museum of Man in Balboa Park …The 24th Annual Make-A-Wish Golf Classic was held at Maderas Golf Club. San Diego County Credit Union was the presenting sponsor and Sycuan Casino was a major supporter. The event raised $90,000 which goes to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
