Chase Plans 10 New Branches in County

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., which acquired failed Washington Mutual in 2008, said it plans to open about 90 new branches in California this year, including about 10 in San Diego County, the financial services company said April 28.

With the additions, Chase would have about 800 branches in the state and some 3,000 ATMs. As of the end of last year, Chase had 77 branches here.

The mega bank said the expansion would create more than 1,200 new jobs in the state.

Pablo Sanchez, who manages Chase’s branch network for the Western U.S., said the bank considers California an important and growing market.

“This will create many jobs, including construction workers to build the branches, vendors to provide service to Chase, and most importantly, branch employees to help our customers with their financial needs,” Sanchez said.
