Gafcon Selected to Oversee Improvements at College Campuses



Progress Report

Gafcon Inc., a Southern California-based development and construction management firm, has been retained by the San Diego Community College District to provide management services for new facilities and improvements at various education sites throughout San Diego. City College, Mesa College, Miramar College as well as others have received improvements, which were funded by Propositions S and N that totaled more than $1.5 billion. Projects included the construction of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, parking and student support facilities, and seismically strengthening campus structures.

Oceanside-based PrimeCo Painting Inc. has been awarded the contract to paint the interior of the leasing office and clubhouse for the Torrey Villas, a 473-unit apartment community located in Sorrento Valley. Octavio Partida, project manager for PrimeCo, will be assisted by foreman German Rodriguez during the project.

San Diego-based construction company Bycor General Contractors has begun construction on the 35,000-square-foot Cornerstone Church of San Diego. The project, located at 1920 Sweetwater Road in National City, includes converting a 26,000-square-foot multiplex theater into a 1,500-seat sanctuary/performing arts center as well as adding a second story with classrooms and preschool facilities. The church complex was designed by Brion Design Inc. of Solana Beach. Construction is set to be completed in March 2008.

Jaynes Corp. has started construction on the San Diego Community College Skills Center located at 4343 Oceanview Blvd. in Logan Heights. Designed by NTC Architecture, the project consists of building three single-story buildings totaling 67,000 square feet along with three auto repair canopies and adjacent hardscaping. The three canopies will house the auto body and repair program as well as the graphics, appliance repair, electronic assembly and computer network cabling programs. The center will relocate several programs from multiple downtown sites into one single facility and construction is valued at $16.26 million.

Construction is under way at Abrams Westview Plaza, a 93,369-square-foot office building in Scripps Ranch. The three-story building will offer space from 1,500 square feet and up to the entire building and includes surface and covered parking in a two-level structure. Preleasing for Abrams Westview Plaza is now available and construction is expected to be complete by August 2008.

Nantucket Two, the second and final section of semi-custom homes by Carlsbad-based home developer Barratt American, has been released for sale. The homes range in size from 2,006 square feet to 4,927 square feet, with three to five bedrooms and 3.5 to 5.5 baths, respectively. Located at 1905 Paxton Way in Encinitas, the community features postmodern and coastal eclectic architecture and prices start at $1.7 million. Construction is expected to be completed on the last portion of the homes in early 2008.
