Tom York - Editor
Tom is a veteran journalist with more than 30 years of experience, primarily in print journalism. Before joining the paper in May 2006, Tom ran his own public relations consulting business and worked as a freelance magazine writer for such diverse publications as California Construction, Cisco World, Information Week, InfoWorld and Investor's Business Daily, as well as a Web site devoted to new wireless technologies sponsored by HP Labs.
He previously held leadership roles at the San Jose Business Journal, San Francisco Business Times and San Francisco Magazine. He also served as editor of the Baltimore, Maryland, Business Journal for two years in the early 1990s. Earlier in his career, he worked as a reporter for U.S. News & World Report in the San Francisco news bureau and as a managing editor for two suburban dailies in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley.

Brad Sondak - Managing Editor
Brad has held the managing editor job since June 2006, and has been involved in journalism since 1983. Prior to joining the Business Journal in July 2004 as deputy editor in charge of special reports, Brad worked for the Associated Press and United Press International and served as chief copy editor for five and a half years with the North County Times. Additionally, Brad served 12 years as an editor and writer for Sun Newspapers, a group of weekly community newspapers. He has won many awards for his headline writing abilities. Brad graduated in 1984 from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.

Julie Gallant - Assistant Managing Editor
Julie coordinates the Special Report section in the Business Journal. Returning to the paper in 2006, she worked for the publication for several years as a reporter and assistant managing editor before leaving to pursue a teaching credential. Previously, Julie worked as a paginator for the North County Times and in various editorial positions for the Fort Worth Suburban Newspapers Group, West Coast Community News and Pomerado Publishing.
She is a San Diego native who graduated with a degree in print journalism from San Diego State University.

Richard Gincel - Assistant Managing Editor
Richard assigns and edits articles, special sections and supplements, and helps with daily operations. Richard began his journalism career at Georgia State University, where he earned a B.S. degree. Directly afterward, in 1992, he went on to work at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a reporter and later as a features writer and advice columnist. Richard moved to San Francisco in 1999 to become a technology journalist. After a brief stint at Microsoft Corp., Richard worked at InfoWorld magazine where he served two years as a copy editor and four years as a features editor specializing in content management, regulatory compliance and security.

Tara Sharp - Supplements Editor
One of the newest members of the Business Journal's editorial staff, Tara previously worked as an account coordinator at a San Diego PR agency, and earlier worked at Coronado Lifestyle Magazine and San Diego Magazine. She has also contributed to Want Magazine and Youth Worker Journal, a national publication geared toward those in youth ministry. She graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2007 with a degree in journalism.

Mike Allen - Senior Reporter
Mike covers finance, public companies, border issues, the port of San Diego and sports business. He began his writing career in Seattle, where he worked for a number of newspapers, including the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Since relocating to San Diego, Mike has worked for the Chula Vista Star News, the Vista Press and the San Diego Daily Transcript, and has covered business since 1990.
He grew up in New York and graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx.

Connie Lewis - Senior Reporter
Connie covers tourism, hospitality, media and marketing. She has been with the Business Journal since 2002. Her previous experience includes business reporting for the Daily Journal Record of Oklahoma City, the Daily Iberian of New Iberia, La. and the Rexburg Standard Journal of Rexburg, Idaho. Connie was also a news correspondent for the Baton Rouge Advocate.

Heather Chambers - Reporter
Heather covers agriculture, biotech, health care and law. Heather came to the Business Journal in 2007 after holding positions as an editor and reporter for two local daily newspapers. She has received numerous honors from the San Diego Press Club and Society of Professional Journalists for her coverage of day laborers in Vista and for her report on environmental concerns associated with nanotechnology. She received a degree in print journalism from the University of Arizona.

Brad Graves - Web Editor
Brad edits stories for the Business Journal's Web site, narrates the publication's podcast and covers the Indian gaming industry along with other topics. He joined the Business Journal in 2000 after a stint with the daily Union Democrat in California's gold country. His first full-time newspaper job, with the La Jolla Light, allowed him to interview alumni of the Manhattan Project.
Brad has a degree in English literature from UC Irvine and a second degree in art from San Diego State University.

Michelle Mowad - Reporter
Michelle covers technology and defense. Michelle came to the Business Journal in 2006 after three years as an education reporter for the Times Herald, a Norristown, Pa., daily newspaper. She has also served as the public information assistant at an East Coast community college and contributed to various weeklies and Web sites. Michelle first covered San Diego County news for the Del Mar Times and Carmel Valley Leader, both MainStreet Media Group community papers.

Ned Randolph - Reporter
Ned covers commercial real estate, design and construction, as well as the residential real estate industry. Ned joined the paper in January 2008 after covering San Marcos for the North County Times. Prior to moving to San Diego, he was a business reporter for the Baton Rouge Advocate for three years and a speechwriter for the mayor of New Orleans.
Ned graduated from UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism in 2002 and held news internships at CBS Marketwatch.com, Financial Times and Time Magazine in Hong Kong. He has also freelanced for Reuters, City News Service, Video Business and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Liz Wiedemann - Reporter
Liz covers retail, transportation and energy. Starting at the Business Journal in early 2006 as a researcher, she compiled the weekly lists of companies and managed all updates and editorial content for the annual Book of Lists. Liz graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. in 2005 with a degree in English literature.
Originally from Georgia, she worked for Atlanta's Northside Neighbor Newspaper, followed by positions at Memphis Magazine, the Memphis Flyer and Memphis Parent Newsmagazine.
