Careview Medical Group, a private medical practice on Euclid Avenue in Southeastern San Diego, is now part of San Ysidro Health. The two organizations merged June 1, resulting in a system of health care for more than 105,000 individuals across San Diego County.

Careview Medical Group has been renamed Careview Health Center.

Through the partnership, San Ysidro Health and Careview Health Center will have an opportunity to provide a wider range of comprehensive health services — including telehealth — to patients in a wider service area.

Careview Health Center was founded by Dr. Rodney Hood and the late Dr. Richard O. Butcher, two prominent providers and leaders in medicine, in 1980.

The office is at 292 Euclid Ave., #210 in San Diego.

“After 40 years of private practice serving the community of Southeast San Diego, I am delighted to have the Careview Health Center (formerly known as Careview Medical Group) join the San Ysidro Health family,” said Hood in a statement. “My deceased partner, Dr. Richard Butcher and I co-founded Careview Medical Group with the vision and passion to serve the community of Southeast San Diego with the same values practiced by San Ysidro Health, to deliver high quality and equitable health care for our underserved community.”

“Our organization is grateful and excited to have Careview Health Center join the San Ysidro Health family,” said Kevin Mattson, president and CEO, San Ysidro Health. “We look forward to honoring the legacy of Dr. Hood and the late Dr. Butcher and work together to continue to respond to the health care needs of the communities we serve during these unprecedented times.”

Hood and Butcher are pioneers in establishing a system of care and providing essential health services for residents and families in the area. In addition, both have been champions of health for vulnerable families through their advocacy work, establishment of the Multicultural Health Foundation, mentorship of other doctors and participation in organizations such as the National Medical Association, among other activities.
