Inseego, a San Diego-based maker of telecommunications technology, named a new Chief Technology Officer on Sept. 17. Dan Picker, a former Nokia executive, will serve as the company’s new CTO for mobile and IoT solutions.

“We are excited to welcome Dan to our leadership team as we continue to bring 5G innovation to the market,” Inseego CEO Dan Mondor said in a news release. “Dan is known for his deep background in wireless technologies and has always worked on the leading edge to drive product innovation. His wireless domain expertise, strategic thinking and leadership skills will be extremely valuable as we continue to develop groundbreaking mobile and fixed wireless broadband solutions for global markets.”

Picker most recently served as CEO of Blue World Solutions, a local product development company. He also served as CTO of PureWave Networks, a Santa Clara-based company that makes wireless base stations. There, he helped build the world’s first 4G small cell base stations, nodes that help provide wireless coverage in dense, urban environments.

Prior to that, he worked for 12 years at Nokia, where he became head of wireless platforms for Nokia’s CDMA operations.

At Inseego, Picker’s experience will be helpful as the company rolls out new 5G mobile hotspots, routers and IoT gateways. He also has strong ties to San Diego’s tech ecosystem; Picker got his master’s degree and PhD in electrical engineering from UC San Diego.

“Inseego has a long history of wireless innovation, and I can’t wait to help write the next chapter with a new generation of 5G mobile and IoT products,” Picker said in a news release. “By connecting what’s happening in the market to what’s happening in the engineering lab, we can deliver on the promise of 5G with new transformative solutions for enterprise and consumer markets.”
