Kratos Defense and Security Solutions Inc. received a contract to produce satellite communications equipment for Tokyo-based SJC, also known as SKY Perfect JSAT Corp. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed. Kratos (Nasdaq: KTOS) announced the deal on Oct. 29.

Kratos will design and build gateways for the Japanese company’s new high-throughput satellite network. The JCSAT-18 high-throughput satellite will deliver broadband and mobile communication services to the Asia Pacific region as well as eastern Russia following launch in 2019.

Kratos said the contract award is for a multi-site gateway solution that will include Kratos’ high-performance, 42-foot turning head antennas and Compass monitoring and control system. The pre-integrated solution will be installed at various customer locations with control equipment centralized in the company’s network operations center.

“Satellite operators deploying HTS [high-throughput satellite] networks need to build new Ka-band ground infrastructure suitable for initial operations, but also designed for growth as business requirements evolve,” said James Kramer, Kratos senior vice president, in a statement distributed by the San Diego company. “We appreciate the continued confidence that SJC has shown in Kratos to help maximize their investment with a high performance, multi-site gateway solution — one that supports their business model both now and in the future.”
