AMN Healthcare Says HQ Will Remain Local

San Diego’s AMN Healthcare is not relocating to Dallas, ending speculation raised by the CEO’s new home and twin datelines.

The country’s largest health care staffing agency, AMN in late September began using two datelines for its press releases: San Diego and Dallas. In addition, CEO Susan Salka relocated to Dallas. Taken together, this prompted speculation that a new headquarters might soon be announced – not exactly far-fetched given a good number of California companies transplanting to Texas in recent years. Last month DJO Global, founded in North County and based for many years in Vista, took that path.

But in an email Salka was unequivocal, saying per securities filings San Diego is AMN’s principal location, and there are no plans to move.

“I moved to Dallas last fall and that should only be interpreted as enabling a more efficient and effective management of an ever-growing nationwide company. AMN Healthcare currently has clients in all 50 states and we have dozens of offices in multiple states across the country. Being located in our Dallas office provides me easier access to visit our team members and clients across the country,” she wrote.

AMN employs about 3,000, including 1,100 in San Diego and 700 in Dallas.

“San Diego and Dallas are our largest offices and thus we have referred to them as our co-headquarters – but we would rather consider ourselves as headquarters agnostic,” Salka wrote. “We are a national company with dozens of offices from California to Connecticut and from Florida to Oregon. Many of our major clients are also spread across the country.”

She added the notion of a dateline for a nationwide company may be antiquated.

“We’d really like it to just say ‘AMN Healthcare’ or ‘Everywhere,’ but that might be a little too confusing,” Salka wrote.
