The first drive-thru-only Chick-fil-A in San Diego County is slated to open March 8 in National City, at 400 Mile of Cars Way.

Franchise owner Michael Gonzales is launching the outlet, which will be the chain's 13th within a 50-mile radius of the city of San Diego.

Fans of the restaurant are expected to gather at the National City site the day before it opens for the chain's signature First 100 event, which encourages people to wait overnight for a chance to be among the first 100 adults from the local community into the eatery and win a year's worth of meals.

Two Chick-fil-A drive-thru-only restaurants are slated to open within a month in the San Diego area; the second is projected to open in Clairemont in late March.

Chick-fil-A says it aims to open a total of 140 new eateries this year nationwide.
