San Diego-based Beacon Discovery has added square footage and employees following partnership deals.
Founded in 2016, Beacon Discovery specializes in so-called G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) drug discovery.
Beacon went from 16 to 28 employees to support ongoing collaborations, one of which was recently announced: supporting preclinical discovery efforts for Escient Pharmaceuticals, a San Diego biotech that launched in May with a $40 million series A round.
Beacon now has seven collaborations, including with Takeda and Janssen. The company is expanding its space with more activity on account of these deals, and to develop proprietary internal programs, adding 10,000 square feet to its 18,000-square-foot facility.
