Two S.D. Cos. Make the List of Fastest Growing Breweries

Novo Brazil Brewing Company and Bay City Brewing are the two San Diego breweries included on the Brewers Association’s list of the Fastest Growing Craft Breweries of 2017.

Novo Brazil, located at 901 Lane Ave, was named number 8, and Bay City, located at 3760 Hancock St., was 28.

Fifty U.S. breweries were listed. Median growth from 2016 to 2017 for these breweries was 216 percent. The median size of breweries on the list went from 284 barrels in 2016 to 963 barrels in 2017.

“With 5 percent growth overall for small and independent brewers in 2017 and microbreweries and brewpubs delivering the majority of that, we wanted to spotlight some of the breweries driving that growth,” Bart Watson, Brewers Association chief economist, said in a statement. “As the growth base for craft becomes more diffuse, these fast growing brewing companies illustrate that a diverse set of success stories still exist.”

The list names only small and independent breweries that have their own production at their facilities. Breweries had to have opened by December 31, 2015 or earlier and provide at least three years of data to be considered.

The Brewers Association is a non-profit trade association that represents US craft breweries.
