Downtown’s Hard Rock Cafe San Diego will close at the end of 2017, though operators did not specify reasons for the shuttering of the Gaslamp Quarter restaurant.

The venue at 801 Fourth Ave., which opened in 1998, will be closing on Dec. 31, according to a statement from Orlando, Fla.-based Hard Rock Cafe International Inc. The closing does not impact the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, which is operated separately at 207 Fifth Ave. in the Gaslamp Quarter.

“San Diego is an important market for Hard Rock International and we are committed to our presence in the market with the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego,” the statement said. “We are actively exploring other opportunities and expect to bring the cafe back to the area at the right time and in a new great location.”
