Raleigh-based Wake Research Associates, a network of clinical research sites, has acquired Medical Center for Clinical Research in San Diego.

Terms of the deal, announced Oct. 3, were not disclosed.

Wake Research, according to the company, conducts clinical trials in nearly all major therapeutic areas, including internal medicine, dermatology and women’s health. It now owns or operates 13 sites, with coast-to-coast coverage.

Medical Center for Clinical Research, founded in 1994, has its roots in women’s health. But it has studied conditions affecting both men and women, such as migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, acne and benign prostatic hypertrophy.

“The MCCR tradition of quality clinical research, and care for clinical trial participants matches our own business culture very well. This partnership also opens up a new geographic region for us to offer to clinical trial sponsors we currently work with,” said Dr. Ella Grach, CEO of Wake Research, in a news release.

Since 1984, Wake Research has conducted more than 6,000 research studies for hundreds of pharmaceutical and biotech sponsors, as well as contract research organizations.
