Burger Construction has hired Brian Gates as its chief operating officer, the San Diego-based general contractor announced.
A company statement said Gates has more than 15 years of experience in commercial real estate development, management and construction. He recently served as senior director and commercial team leader at San Diego’s H.G. Fenton Co., overseeing commercial acquisition, leasing, redevelopment, construction and property management operations.
Prior to his 10 years with Fenton, Gates also worked for five years with DPR Construction in San Francisco and San Diego, managing a variety of ground-up and tenant-improvement projects. Burger Construction President and CEO Jack Burger said Gates brings an “own/developer mindset” to his new position.
A Solana Beach resident, Gates has a master’s degree in real estate from University of San Diego’s Burnham Moores Center for Real Estate and a bachelor’s in business management from University of Phoenix. He holds general contractor and real estate broker licenses and is a current board member of NAIOP San Diego, a commercial real estate industry group.
Burger Construction, based in Sorrento Valley, provides general construction, design/build and construction management services. It does general office projects and also serves specialized industries including technology and life sciences.
