San Diego ranks fourth among major North American markets as a destination for meetings, in an annual survey of meeting planners by research firm STR.

A statement said 64 percent of respondents have used or would consider San Diego, placing the region fourth among 40 markets in the 17th annual edition of the STR study. This year’s results came from 865 completed written surveys.

The top three were Chicago (67 percent), Orlando, Fla. (67 percent) and Washington, D.C. (66 percent), with Las Vegas (62 percent) rounding out the top five markets.

Chris Klauda, STR’s director of destination research, said planners in the survey indicated that a safe environment was overwhelmingly the top consideration when selecting a meeting site, followed by clean and attractive location and other logistical considerations.
