The U.S. Army awarded Harper Construction Co. Inc. a fixed-price, $33.8 million contract to design and build a depot maintenance dock hangar. Work will run through September 2018.
Six companies bid on the work, awarded by the Army Corps of Engineers of Tulsa, Okla.
The Pentagon announced the contract win Sept. 28.
Separately, on Sept. 29, the Pentagon said it increased the pool of money set aside for a group of projects that five local small construction firms may bid on.
The firms are Patricia I. Romero Inc. dba Pacific West Builders of National City, Peter Vander Werff Construction Inc. of El Cajon, Dimensions Construction Inc. of San Diego, I.E.-Pacific Inc. of Escondido and Halbert Construction Co. Inc. of El Cajon.
The deals — originally announced in 2014 — now have a $106 million ceiling value, up from the previously announced $99 million. They cover new construction and repairs in the western United States, with 90 percent of the work expected in California. Work will run through 2019.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command awarded the deals.
The contracts have been set aside for businesses located in historically underutilized business zones or service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
