TP Therapeutics Moves to New Facility

TP Therapeutics Inc., a small pharmaceutical company that just raised $18 million, is moving to a new facility in Torrey Ridge Science Center.

The San Diego firm is leaving its current office on Lusk Boulevard to lease a nearly 9,000 square foot space in the old Pfizer Inc. building on Science Center Drive, according to a Cushman & Wakefield report.

The company, founded in 2012 by Jean Cui and her husband Y. Peter Li, is working to solve the problem of drug-resistant cancers

Cui is the lead inventor of top-selling Pfizer cancer drug, Xalkori — an achievement that earned her prestige in the scientific community. The popular medication topped the performance of chemotherapy in a 2014 lung cancer trial and currently has annual sales of $438 million. Some analysts are predicting that Xalkori could reach blockbuster potential by 2020, raking in over $1 billion per year.

At TP Therapetuics, Cui and her team are working to improve the cancer drug market with a drug that works even better than Xalkori, Cui said last year.

“I saw problems with Xalkori and other drugs available for this type of cancer, and I knew that someone needed to work on these problems so that we could provide better medicines for patients,” Cui said in an interview with the San Diego Business Journal last year.

Last year, the company was in late-stage pre-clinical trials, and planned to file an Investigational New Drug application with the FDA in 2016.

The company is moving into its new space on June 1, according to Cushman & Wakefield.
