The U.S. Navy awarded BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair a $15.6 million contract to conduct post-shakedown availabilities for the Navy’s newest littoral combat ships, the USS Detroit and the USS Montgomery.

Post-shakedown availability is a visit to the shipyard after a new ship’s initial time at sea. Work will take place over the next 12 months.

The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the deal to $104 million.

The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C. awarded the deal, announced Feb. 19.
