Local gene therapy biotech Renova Therapeutics Inc. has hired Catherine Bovenizer as the company’s new chief financial officer.

Bovenizer, a CPA, comes to Renova from San Diego’s Apricus Biosciences, where she served as vice president of finance and chief accounting officer.

At Renova, Bovenizer will oversee the company’s financial goals, objectives, and implementation of the budget. She will report to Roy Cosan, president of Renova.

"As a development-stage biotech that continues to grow, we know it's critical to continue to manage our finances with extreme diligence and with focus on value creation," Cosan said in a statement. "That's why the addition of Cath as CFO was of utmost importance to us. Her experience in financial management within both private and public biotechnology companies is vital to our success."

Prior to her most recent role at Apricus, Bovenizer also held roles at Ambit Biosciences, Senomyx, Ligand Pharmaceuticals and GeneFormatics.
