Illumina Strikes Deal With Oregon-Based Tech Firm FlowJo

Medtech giant Illumina Inc. announced a partnership with Oregon-based tech firm FlowJo LLC to develop and co-market software for analyzing single-cell, next-generation sequencing data.

The new software application will provide analysis and visualization of datasets, according to an Illumina news release. The application will also integrate with Illumina’s Single Cell RNA BaseSpace app.

San Diego-based Illumina, the world’s largest developer of genome sequencing machines, said the software will also complement a commercial solution for high-throughput sequencing of single cells that Illumina is co-developing with Bio-Rad Laboratories.

“FlowJo LLC is recognized for delivering reliable, high-quality and easy-to-use software solutions that allow cell biologists to study phenotype in individual cells by flow cytometry,” said Rob Brainin, vice president and general manager, Applied Genomics at Illumina. “We look forward to enabling our customers to bring these trusted FlowJo analytical capabilities to their next-generation sequencing data.”

The two said the new software will roll out in Q1 of 2017

Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
