Chicago-based tax and advisory firm Grant Thornton LLP said Tuesday it was adding a former IBM vice president to its San Diego office as a principal in its advisory practice.

Kevin Baril, a former vice president of global business services for IBM, will focus on strategy, technology transformation and systems implementation for the firm’s West region. Baril also served as a partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s management consulting services group, working on system consulting.

Grant Thornton said Baril has been consulting for more than 25 years and helped clients with cloud solutions, application management and service offering strategy.

“Kevin’s extensive experience leading the identification, advancement and development of profitable business growth, as well as his deep industry knowledge, will be an invaluable asset to our clients throughout the West region as we continue to expand our practice,” said Doreen Griffith, Grant Thornton’s California managing partner.

Grant Thornton has more than $1.3 billion in U.S. revenue across its 57 offices. It has more than 500 partners and 6,000 employees.
