Taco Bell Rolls Out New Mobile App

Irvine-based Taco Bell Corp. has introduced its new mobile app for ordering and payment.

The new one replaces one introduced in January 2012 and last updated in March 2013 as the company was in development on the new one.

The app taps current technology and increases user options. In addition to ordering, and payment through credit, debit or Taco Bell gift cards, it includes ingredient lists for ordering; scheduled pickups; the ability to skip in-store lines; and a “Rotate to Reorder” function that allows users to choose frequently purchased items by turning the smart phone sideways.

“Technology has fundamentally changed how we interact with brands,” said Taco Bell President Brian Niccol. “We believe mobile ordering and payment is the biggest innovation [in restaurants] since the drive-thru.”

The app can be used for drive-thru orders or inside restaurants and is available for Apple and Android smartphone operating systems, the company said.

Taco Bell has about 6,000 restaurants systemwide, with 2013 companywide sales of $7.8 billion. It has said it wants to take revenue to $14 billion by about 2020.

It is owned by Yum Brands in Louisville, Ky.
