Chargers Blood Drive Set for November 25

The 36th annual Chargers Blood Drive, sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Town and Country Resort Hotel & Convention Center in Mission Valley.

The blood drive, which began in 1979, is one of the community’s longest running and most successful lifesaving events of the year, and one of the largest single blood drives in the nation, according to SDCCU, which has supported the event for the past 16 years.

Over the past 35 years, the drive has collected about 71,000 pints of blood, including one day in 1983 when it gained entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest single-day, single-location blood drive, collecting 1,853 pints.

At last year’s event, about 2,500 people attended and more than 1,000 donors gave blood for hospital patients, Blood Bank officials said.
