ORGANIZATION

No. of members: 300.

Mission of organization: BOMA San Diego is the leading local voice for the commercial real estate industry. The organization promotes the interests of a changing commercial real estate industry by encouraging participation in education, networking and advocacy.

Year founded: 1963.

PROFESSIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Essential working philosophy: Always do what you say you are going to do.

Best way to keep a competitive edge: Never stop learning. No matter how long you have been working in a particular industry, there is always something more you can learn.

Guiding principles: The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Yardsticks of success: Having been in the industry for over 27 years, I have helped train numerous real estate managers over the years, and to see those people flourish in their careers is very rewarding.

Goals yet to be achieved: To have even more commercial real estate companies join BOMA. We already have a very diverse membership, but those companies that are not members are missing out. … My goal is to reach out to those companies that are not members and encourage them to get engaged, which will help them grow as commercial real estate managers.

JUDGMENT CALLS

Best professional decision: Choosing to become an active participant with BOMA, not just attending the monthly luncheons, but to actually participate. Through that participation, I have increased my value to my employer.

Worst professional decision: Waiting to get my college degree.

Toughest professional decision: Having to terminate someone is always difficult, regardless of the circumstance due to the emotional and financial impact.

Mentor: My grandmother. She taught me to always do my best, to help others whenever possible and to not take myself too seriously. Life is too short not to have fun.

Word that describes you: Upbeat.

TRUE CONFESSIONS

What you like best about your job: Meissner Jacquét is supportive of my role as president of BOMA San Diego. Meissner Jacquét sees the value of my participation in BOMA, and they encourage my personal growth.

What you like least about your job: I wish I had a clone. There are so many things that I enjoy between my responsibilities at BOMA and Meissner Jacquét; there is always more with both organizations that I would like to do.

Pet peeves: Dishonesty.

Most important lesson learned: Having a good team is vital. I have learned to surround myself with quality people because it really is a team effort. … I don’t have all the answers or all the great ideas, but by surrounding myself with a good team we can achieve spectacular results.

Person most interested in meeting: If he were still living, I would love to meet Walt Disney. He was a great visionary who built an incredible business that is not only wildly profitable but continues to bring joy to millions of people.

Three greatest passions: Personal growth, having fun with my family and playing with my dogs.
