Taxpayer Association President Leaving Post to Join Mayor Faulconer’s Staff

The San Diego County Taxpayers Association said its president, Felipe Monroig, is leaving the post to take a job with Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s administration.

Sean Karafin, SDCTA’s economic policy analyst, will serve as interim president and CEO while the association conducts a search for a replacement. Monroig’s last day is March 7, and he starts at the city of San Diego March 10.

Monroig began with SDCTA in 2013, and before that was the chief of staff to former Councilman Carl DeMaio, who is now running for Congress.

Greg Stein, SDCTA’s chairman said the organization has initiated a search process for a new president “and won’t miss a beat as we continue to provide thorough research and advocacy on behalf of taxpayers across San Diego County.”

Stein appointed Mark Nelson, a longtime board member and former chair, to head the search committee to find Monroig’s successor.
