Competitor Group Inc., the San Diego based media and event business that organizes the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Series, said it named Meb Keflezighi as the first vice president of running.

Keflezighi, a San Diegan who became the first American man to win the Boston Marathon in 30 years in April, will be in charge of CGI training content and contribute to the growth of the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Series.

Keflezighi, who lives in Mission Hills, was also the silver medal winner in the 2004 Olympic Marathon in Athens, and a heralded collegiate runner while at UCLA.

David Abeles, CEO for CGI, said the company had been looking for someone with energy, experience and a passion for the sport to propel the firm’s running brand to higher levels of success. “It is critical that we are completely authentic in everything we do in running and who better to ensure that than Meb,” he said.
