SDBJ Appoints Nels Jensen as Editor-In-Chief

Nels Jensen, a veteran journalist with experience in Southern California and Texas, has been named editor-in-chief of the San Diego Business Journal, Publisher Armon Mills announced July 11.

“Nels has an excellent background in print and digital media and as a business editor,” Mills said. “He will be a tremendous asset to the company and a key addition to our management team.”

Jensen assumes the role July 14.

“This is a great opportunity,” Jensen said. “SDBJ has a long and successful history. I’m looking forward to being part of that and helping the Journal grow.”

Jensen, 53, most recently was an editor and vice president of news and content with The Press-Enterprise in the Inland Empire. He has held a variety of roles in the industry, including three years as editor of The Business Press for the Press-Enterprise.

“I am delighted to welcome Nels in the role of editor-in-chief,” said, Reo Carr, who remains in his role as executive editor, focusing on special projects and digital development. “I look forward to working with him and the editorial staff to continue to cover the San Diego business community.”

Tony Quesada continues in his role as managing editor for the Journal.

Jensen said he sees great opportunity in the region. “San Diego is in a sweet spot for business journals,” Jensen said. “The business community is intimate but growing. We need to continue to be impactful but still intimate.”

Jensen is married to wife Joan and has two grown children, including one who is enrolling at San Diego State University this year.
