Defense Deals Could Be Worth Millions of Dollars for 2 Local Small Businesses

By Brad Graves Thursday, January 16, 2014

Two local small businesses are in line to produce information-system hardware for the U.S. Navy, the Pentagon announced. The deals could offer both companies millions of dollars over six years.

The Navy awarded indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity deals to Micro USA Inc. of Poway and Systems Engineering Support Co. of San Diego’s Miramar neighborhood.

Both will be asked to produce navigation sensor system interface hardware. Navssi — as it is known for short — collects, processes, integrates and formats distribution positioning, navigation and timing data for a variety of systems, including weapons systems, command and control, and communication systems.

Systems Engineering Support Co.’s contract has an $18.6 million ceiling. Micro USA’s deal has a $17.6 million ceiling.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, or Spawar, awarded the contracts.
