Kratos Defense & Security Solutions Inc. said on Dec. 8 that one of its subsidiaries received a contract to provide ground electronics to a satellite company in Qatar.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

University City-based Kratos (Nasdaq: KTOS) said its Kratos Integral Systems Europe subsidiary planned to expand the capacity management center for Es’hailSat.

Kratos said the deal is to accommodate the Es’hail-2 satellite, which the company hopes to launch in late 2016. Mitsubishi Electric is building the second satellite.

Kratos deployed a capacity management center for Es’hailSat in 2013.

The San Diego company said it plans to provide four new earth stations covering the Ku-band and Ka-band mission of the Es’hail-2 satellite, extend the frequency planning system, and provide its Monics carrier management solution and its Compass Monitoring & Control system.

Doha, Qatar-based Es’hailSat said it derives its name from a star. Kratos’ announcement said a third satellite may be in the works.

Kratos Integral Systems Europe has offices in Toulouse, France and Gateshead, England.
