San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said his office hit a record for tax collections for the 2014 fiscal year that ended June 30.

The office reached 99.1 percent collections and about $4.77 billion for the year.

Last October McAllister’s office sent out 981,929 property tax bills, which were expected to generate $4.81 billion.

McAllister, who is an elected official, said it was evident property owners were placing great importance on protecting their real estate investments. “Add to this to an improving economy, and all of a sudden our San Diego County collection rates have hit a new mark,” he said.
