Legoland Debuting Water Park in 2014

Friday, September 13, 2013

Legoland California Resort plans to open Lego Legends of Chima, a new three-acre water park set for a summer 2014 debut on the grounds of the Carlsbad theme park.

Park operators did not disclose an expected investment cost. At a news conference, officials introduced four of eight main areas planned for the new attraction, including an interactive wave pool for families and young children featuring a 30-foot water cascade.

There will also be a slide feature with water cannons and jets, and a build-a-boat interactive play experience. The water park will also have an eatery called Wolves’ Cantina.

The water park is among several attractions added at the Carlsbad property during the past three years, including water play areas, an aquarium, Star Wars-themed exhibits and a recently opened Lego-themed hotel.

The newest attraction is based on Lego Group’s popular Legends of Chima building-block sets. The toys are themed on a mystical land where animal tribes battle for a precious energy source called “Chi.”

Legoland Calfornia Resort is among several attractions operated worldwide by U.K.-based Merlin Entertainments Group, a portfolio company of equity firm The Blackstone Group of New York City.
