San Diego-based Borrego Solar is among 22 companies that recently received U.S. Defense Department contracts for solar energy.

Borrego and the 21 other winning bidders will now compete for power purchase agreement task orders. The value of the contract was not given. In all, the 22 businesses may receive contracts cumulatively worth $7 billion.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineer Support Center in Huntsville, Ala., awarded the deals. Borrego Solar had lots of competition. The Army reported that 114 businesses bid on the contracts.
