Tech Coast Angels, the largest angel investor organization in the nation with a chapter in San Diego, was named as one of five most active investor groups in the nation by the Halo Report, which tracks these organizations.

Through September, TCA said it invested about $25 million in California startups, with San Diego’s chapter accounting for about $7 million of that total, said Gary Phillips, president of TCA San Diego.

The local chapter accounts for about a third of TCA’s total membership of 300. TCA also has chapters in Los Angeles and Orange counties, the Central Coast and the Inland Empire.

The quarterly Halo Report, which was released earlier this month by the Angel Resource Institute and Silicon Valley Bank, includes analysis of investment activity by angels and angel groups. Data is collected by survey and the aggregation of public data.
