Jay Goldstone, who worked as the city of San Diego’s chief operating officer until the end of 2012, was named managing director in the public finance group of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ.

In his new role, Goldstone, based in Los Angeles, will be responsible for managing financial investments of state and local government and nonprofit clients. Duties include origination and structuring lines of credit, loans and placements, bond purchase agreements, and letters of credit, said the Japanese banking corporation that owns Union Bank.

Goldstone joined the city in 2006 as its chief financial officer under former Mayor Jerry Sanders, and managed the city’s daily operations, overseeing about 10,000 employees and an annual operating budget of $2.7 billion.
