Work Completed on $456 Million Hospital at Camp PendletonThursday, October 24, 2013
A joint venture of Clark Construction Group LLC and McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has completed the $456 million Naval Hospital at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton near Oceanside.
Company officials said the project was completed six months ahead of schedule and more than $100 million under budget. U.S. Navy officials, contractors and hospital operators marked completion of the project at a recent local ceremony.
The 1-million-square-foot hospital is situated on a 70-acre site near the military base’s south entrance, and will employ approximately 1,100 medical and support staff. It includes 96 outpatient procedure rooms, 205 exam rooms, and 54 patient rooms accommodating up to 60 beds.
The facility is expected to earn Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. The hospital replaces an older facility built in 1974 near Lake O’Neil, which will continue to be used for administrative offices and storage.
Officials said patients from the existing hospital will be transferred to the new hospital in mid-December, and a formal opening ceremony for the new facility is planned for January.
