Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc. has entered a five-year research collaboration deal with La Jolla’s Scripps Research Institute to study infectious disease, particularly influenza.

Under the agreement, Janssen – a Belgian pharma company with a heavy presence in San Diego – will receive certain licensing rights to the results of the research.

“This deal is the latest example of our corporate partnership strategy, in which we seek focused collaborations to match companies’ specific areas of interest with areas of expertise among multiple TSRI labs,” said Scott Forrest, Scripps Research Institute’s vice president for business development.
