Eventful, the San Diego firm that provides digital promotion services of events and entertainment, rolled out a new application for Apple’s iPhone that covers a full spectrum of events and tailors event recommendations to its user.

The new app differs from other similar apps by including not only concerts and movies, but 26 other categories and both local events and those around the world, the company said.

It also has a personalized component that learns what type of events a user is most interested in, and makes suitable recommendations, Eventful said.

“Our goal is to help our community of over 20 million members make their lives more fulfilling by discovering events that they’re passionate about,” said Jordan Glazier, Eventful’s chief executive.

The app is available free from the Apple iTunes store.

The privately held company launched in 2004 and attracted about $20 million in venture investment from several firms led by Bay Partners and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. It now has about 65 employees, including some 50 working locally and in five other cities, a spokeswoman said.
