Alaska Airlines is launching new daily nonstop service between San Diego International Airport and Boston’s Logan International Airport.
Airport and airline officials were scheduled to formally kick off the new service in a ceremony planned for March 29 at the airport, according to a statement from the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
Flights will be departing from San Diego daily at 9:30 a.m., and arriving from Boston at 10:13 p.m.
The new Boston service follows the recent start of the Seattle-based airline’s new direct flights between San Diego and Orlando, offered five times weekly. Alaska Airlines is also scheduled to begin new direct service between San Diego and Lihue, Kauai, on June 7.
The Hawaii flights will initially run daily, switching to four-times-weekly on Aug. 23.
Alaska Airlines marketing Vice President Joe Sprague said in a statement that the new local Boston and Hawaii services were spurred by strong demand from business and vacation travelers. The Hawaii flights will bring the carrier’s total to 160 weekly flights offered at San Diego International.
