Add ViaSat Inc. to the people, places and things that have set Guinness World Records.

The company’s ViaSat-1 satellite has grabbed the title of highest capacity communications satellite in the world.

The satellite, launched in October 2011, powers the Carlsbad company’s Exede-brand satellite Internet service. At the time of its launch, ViaSat-1 had more capacity than all of the other communication satellites covering North America combined.

ViaSat rolled out its Exede Internet service in January 2012 and now has more than 200,000 subscribers. A recent Federal Communications Commission report noted that 90 percent of ViaSat subscribers received 140 percent or better of the advertised download speed of 12 megabits per second.

Shares of ViaSat trade on the Nasdaq under the symbol VSAT.
