Transit officials have improved and restored the free Wi-Fi service offered on the Coaster commuter train, which had been turned off due to technical issues.

A statement from the Oceanside-based North County Transit District said service is back up and running, after being temporarily suspended while transit officials and service provider T-Mobile spent the last several months testing and enhancing the Wi-Fi system.

All 28 Coaster cars are now Wi-Fi enabled. Ryan Cashin, the transit district’s chief technical officer, said connectivity issues have been resolved and the network is much improved.

Connection speeds will continue to vary depending on the number of passengers using the network at a given time, and what it is being used for. Cashin said the free Wi-Fi is intended for light Internet usage such as checking email and browsing the Web, and users are being asked not to stream music or download large files.
