American Airlines on June 12 is scheduled to begin the first direct daily local service to Miami, Fla., in more than 20 years. The daily nonstop flight will be the only local service between the two cities.

Prior to the start of the current service, Miami was the largest market without direct service from San Diego International Airport, according to a statement from the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, which oversees the facility.

American Airlines last served the San Diego-Miami route briefly from 1992 to 1993, officials said. The new flights will deploy a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 150 seats, bringing to 25 the number of daily flights served locally by American and American Eagle.

American Flight 1065 is scheduled to arrive daily at 8:55 p.m. in San Diego, with Flight 1042 departing for Miami at 9:45 p.m.
