AIS to Provide Services for Innovative Internet Radio VentureThursday, January 31, 2013
American Internet Services announced a new customer win recently.
The business said it will provide infrastructure for DAR.fm, an Internet radio venture from San Diego serial entrepreneur Michael Robertson.
AIS will serve the business from its data center on Lightwave Avenue in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego.
DAR.fm describes its product as akin to digital video recorder technology — or rather “DVR for radio.” Its technology lets customers record, pause and play radio content.
Robertson indicated that AIS’ direct relationship with several subscriber networks — including AT&T, Comcast, Cox, Sprint, and Verizon — provides a very short and extremely reliable network path between end users and DAR.fm servers, and was highly influential in his company’s decision to select AIS as its data center services provider.
Robertson may be best known as the executive behind the San Diego online music site MP3.com. MP3.com had a meteoric rise, went public in 1999, was sued by the music industry and was sold to Vivendi Universal in 2001.
