SDG&E Releases Energy Usage Monitoring App

San Diego Gas & Electric has released an app that will allow customers to check their recent energy use, set and manage energy saving goals, and track weather patterns related to energy use.

SDG&E teamed up with San Francisco-based app developer Candi Controls to develop the app, which was designed to help customers securely make smarter choices in their energy use habits. The company said its goal is to improve efficiency and lower overall costs.

It received certification from TRUSTed Smart Grid Privacy Program, a self-regulating program that certifies that companies use responsible privacy practices as they collect and share consumer data.

“Privacy of customer data is important to SDG&E, and we are committed to protecting our customers’ data as well as equipping customers so that they can make smart choices about how they share and use their energy data,” said SDG&E Vice President, Customer Services and Chief Customer Privacy Officer Caroline Winn in a statement.

Additional features include access to the SDG&E outage map, online bill payment, environmental impact, historical use analysis, and an overview of the actual use and savings relative to history.
