Lani Lutar, president and chief executive officer of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, said she is leaving the job to take over as executive director of the Equinox Center, a local think tank and advocacy group.

Lutar started with SDCTA seven years ago, and headed the organization that played a part in getting Proposition B passed in the city of San Diego. The law reformed the city’s pension plan, eliminating pensions for new city workers except for police officers.

SDCTA was also involved in a few other city reforms including shifting the city government model to a strong mayor system that gives the city’s mayor far more power, as well as the creation of an independent city auditor and independent budget analyst.

Chris Cate, the association’s vice president, will serve as interim president and CEO while the association conducts a search for Lutar’s replacement. Her last day is March 8 and she begins her new job March 18.
