The Home Depot plans to hire 80,000 seasonal workers at its U.S. home improvement stores this year, including 900 at its 21 San Diego County locations.
The announcement from the Atlanta-based retailer followed rival Lowe’s announced plans to add 45,000 seasonal part-time workers, including approximately 182 at its seven local stores. Lowe’s is also looking to fill 9,000 permanent part-time positions this year, amounting to 35 jobs locally.
A statement from Home Depot said approximately half of the company’s seasonal hires transitioned into regular positions last year.
Workers being brought in for the peak spring-summer season will be assigned responsibilities based on previous retail or home improvement experience, and also on the needs of individual stores.
The retailer recently launched its online Military Skills Translator program, to help match military-related capabilities with company positions, and has scheduled military hiring events nationwide. More information on job openings is at careers.homedepot.com.
