Horizon Energy Group and locally based Envision Solar International Inc. announced that the companies will work on a Solar Forest in North Carolina, the first major project under the companies’ teaming agreement.

Approximately 2,300 Solar Tree structures will be installed in the Solar Forest that will generate approximately 35 megawatts of renewable solar energy when the project is completed in 2014.

Envision Solar will serve as the exclusive provider of the Solar Tree structures, which will be assembled in San Diego.

“This is a massive and exciting deployment of our products,” Desmond Wheatley, CEO of Envision Solar, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be working with Horizon on this installation, which is ideally suited to our highly engineered Solar Trees.”

Installation of Envision’s Solar Trees is set to begin in the second quarter of this year.
