New Auto Sales Are Up in County

Auto sales are up this year nearly 12 percent over 2012.

Drivers in San Diego County registered 11.7 percent more new cars and light trucks in the first seven months of 2013, compared with the same period of 2012, according to data from R.L. Polk & Co.

The New Car Dealers Association San Diego County released a report containing the data.

Drivers in the county registered 80,084 new cars and light trucks during the first seven months of 2013, compared with 71,670 in the same period last year.

Toyota continued to be the best-selling manufacturer in San Diego County with 19.7 percent of sales, down from 20.8 percent from one year ago. Ford was second best. Honda placed third.

Tesla fans, take note. San Diegans registered 372 of the all-electric luxury autos in the first seven months of the year, up from zero in the same period last year.
