San Diego-based Sempra Energy has ordered 1.1 million solar panels for its Nevada power plant from Changshou, China-based Trina Solar.

This will allow a 1,400-acre expansion of Sempra’s Boulder City, Nevada-based power plant, which will provide electricity to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the City of Burbank in a 20-year contract with Southern California Public Power Authority.

The plant, expected to be complete in early 2015, will provide enough energy to power about 80,000 homes.
